Case Study

N/ERA
WRAP PANT

SS26 | Contoured Wrap Flare — NR-SS26-WLP01

Scroll to explore the construction engineering behind a zero-compromise wrap flare in cotton-linen poplin. Every seam placement, closure detail, and interior finish was specified to luxury ready-to-wear standards.

01 — Problem

Structure
Without Stiffness

The brief demanded a fitted hip block dropping into a crisp architectural flare — but in a natural-fibre poplin, not a synthetic. Linen-cotton wants to crumple and bag. The wrap closure had to hold without visible topstitching. The transition from tailored hip to flare break had to read as seamless with zero bagging at the knee.

02a — Waistband Architecture

Front Wrap
Construction

The front wrap uses a deep self-fabric facing, block-fused to maintain the diagonal edge without collapsing. Strictly understitched to the interior — the centre-front edge rolls inward with zero visible topstitching on the face. A 3mm waxed cotton micro-cord threads through 5mm gunmetal eyelets at the wrap point for closure.

02b — Back Waistband

Encased
Elastic Casing

The back waistband houses a 20mm non-roll woven elastic inside a 50mm total-height casing. Elastic is anchored at both side seams with a single horizontal channel-stitch through the centre to eliminate twisting. This gives controlled stretch at the back while the front wrap remains architecturally rigid.

02c — Pocket Engineering

Invisible
On-Seam Pockets

The pocket openings are the critical fail point. 5mm clear Mobilon tape is sewn directly into the pocket opening seam allowance before bag attachment — this locks the bias grain and prevents gaping under wear. Internal pocket bags are cut in 100% Bemberg cupro, enclosed with ¼" French seams. Overlocking is strictly prohibited to avoid thigh friction and bulk.

02d — Closure System

Invisible
Side Zipper

Entry is via a #3 YKK invisible zipper placed at the wearer's left side seam — positioned seamlessly between the top of the waistband and the start of the invisible side pocket. The zipper is entirely concealed within the seam allowance, maintaining the clean vertical line from waist to hem.

02e — Material Specification

Cotton-Linen
Poplin

High-density warp construction with a crisp architectural substrate. Face and back must be matte — no sheen permitted. The fabric must be heavy enough to anchor the flare drop without billowing, while remaining light enough to move. Zero-tension spreading with mandatory 24-hour rest before cutting to prevent panel distortion.

02f — Finishing Details

Baby Hem
& Thread Spec

The hem is a ⅛" double-fold baby hem sewn with Tex 25 fine poly-silk blend thread — the only location this thread is used. All structural seams (inseam, side seam, U-seam) use Tex 30 core-spun polyester for strength. Needle specification is Microtex throughout to maintain fabric integrity in the tightly woven poplin.

03 — Result

Production
Validated

Wrap closure holds without topstitching. Flare breaks cleanly below the knee with zero bagging. Mobilon-locked pockets sit flush. French-seamed cupro bags eliminate all interior friction. Gunmetal eyelet cord closure reads as hardware-forward without compromising the minimal silhouette.
